The Red Button: APEX Desktop Applications
Can't I just have an icon on my desktop to run the APEX application? Can the APEX application access my desktop resources? Questions like these have been asked; let's explore some possibilities. This presentation will show you how to run your APEX application as a native desktop application using Node.js and Electron.

Secure RESTful Services
Web services are everywhere these days. You may find yourself needing to both produce and consume them, depending on the requirement. The data transmitted from web services is just as sensitive as data within your own database, so you need to ensure that it’s being transmitted in the most secure fashion possible. This session will cover how to create and also secure a RESTful web service via ORDS using OAuth 2.0. It will also cover how to consume a web service that requires OAuth 2.0 based authentication via PL/SQL APIs.

Hacking Oracle APEX
There have been many conference presentations, books, and webinars that discuss and demonstrate how to secure APEX applications. But most, if not all, of these never get into what an actual attack can look like and the damage it can end up causing. This session will demonstrate just that—actual Cross Site Scripting and SQL Injection attacks against APEX applications that do a whole lot more than print “hello, world." In addition to demonstrating the attacks, we will also cover what you can do to mitigate and prevent these types of attacks.

Exploring APEX 5.1's Interactive Grid and Other New Features
APEX 5.1 became available in December 2016 after multiple early adopter trials and lots of testing. This session will explore some of APEX’s new features, including Interactive Grid, Charts integrated with Oracle JET, and more. Attendees will see, in cloud-based demonstrations, how Interactive Grid provides the best features of Interactive Reports and Tabular Forms and how easy it is to create a Master->Detail->Detail experience for your users. Universal theme and UX improvements are many. Come see how the per-user preferences and asynchronous dynamic actions work.

How to Load Data, Let Me Count the Ways—Revisited
This session is an update of a 2012 session that outlined data load options for loading CSV and XLSX data into an Oracle database via an APEX application. A lot has changed in six years: loading requirements have changed (more XLSX, CLOBs and LOBs), environments have changed (more hybrid and cloud-based), and there are enhanced and new data load options to choose from.
This presentation will outline the steps to move files to a typical cloud environment for load. We will mention, but not detail, options for loading via JavaScript or node.js functions, and where such options may be appropriate. This presentation will focus on in-application data load options for routine, repeated, or one-of programmatic data loads. Attendees will learn about enhancements to common data load methods and interfaces they may not be aware of (PL/SQL-based XLSX loading interfaces).
Let’s revisit the ways to programmatically load data into an on-premise or cloud Oracle database. This presentation reviews a collection of data load options, including the APEX Data Load wizard, external tables, ORDS bulk data load, open source interfaces, plugins and APEX APIs helpful for custom coding. Demonstrations and examples are geared toward APEX applications, yet most of the techniques described can be used in any PL/SQL application. Attendees will gain sufficient knowledge to make an intelligent choice for their application data loading needs.

Going to the Grid: Interactive Grid Essentials
Interested in Interactive Grid? Looking for practical guidance on when, why, and how to upgrade to or adopt the APEX Interactive Grid region type? This session examines the functionality, structure, and APIs (high level) of the new Interactive Grid region type as a replacement for Interactive Reports and tabular forms.
Should you upgrade and fix, or rebuild a customized region? We’ll compare Interactive Grid features with comparative (and/or lacking) features in Interactive Reports and tabular forms and demonstrate how to handle common requirements—checklists, cascading select lists, row-level validations, interactions between columns, navigation between fields, dynamic actions—to see what Interactive Grid does declaratively and where one may need to customize.
Attendees will learn the essentials for declarative features and common JavaScript-based customizations for Interactive Grids. Attendees will learn the essentials for declarative features and common JavaScript-based customizations for Interactive Grids.
This session is focused on mainstream APEX developers, or those new to APEX, who are looking to adopt Interactive Grids. The aim is to present JavaScript constructs and syntax for Interactive Grid JavaScript customizations, sufficient to help traditionally PL/SQL-based users transition their existing interactive report or tabular form customizations from PL/SQL to their JavaScript equivalents.

Going to the Grid: Tabular Forms Edition
Looking for advice on upgrading your APEX tabular forms to editable interactive grids? This is your stop. This session examines the functionality, structure and JavaScript APIs of Interactive Grids with a heavy focus on editable features and essential upgrade tactics. The presentation will:
  • Compare editable interactive grid features with equivalent (and/or lacking) features in legacy and custom tabular forms.
  • Review strategies for typical upgrade scenarios.
  • Demonstrate how to implement common requirements—checklists, cascading select lists, interactions between columns, navigation between fields, dynamic actions—to see what can be achieved declaratively and where customizations via dynamic actions and/or the Interactive Grid APIs are required.
  • Recommend strategy for and demonstrate how to achieve simple, complex and multi-row validations, client and server-side.
  • Explain and show JavaScript methods to access/manipulate data and adjust the grid menus to meet typical tabular form (now Editable Grid) business requirements.
This session is essential for those who have existing tabular forms, plain or highly customized (with PL/SQL and/or JavaScript), and need advice on if, when, and how to replicate that tabular form functionality in an editable interactive grid.
