UTOUG Training Days 2018

This session is a break from the usual technical session. Instead, this talk is a discussion of non-technical attitudes, practices, and habits to adopt to make the technical aspects—constant learning, tighter schedules, fewer resources—on an Oracle IT career easier to handle.
A 2018 technical career means constantly learning to stay current, marketable, and useful. To do this in today’s fast-changing environment takes more than the standard 9-to-5 job—it takes a personal commitment to better one’s non-technical skills and habits. Suggestions include getting a mentor, being a mentor, seeking and doing homework (in the form of online or in-person classes, meetups, workshops and conferences), volunteering (giving back also helps us learn), changing habits, and staying balanced (including vacations).
Attendees will gain practical tips for personal growth to complement growth in technical skills, learn the benefits of mentoring and volunteering, hear concrete suggestions for honing non-technical work habits, take a break from the purely technical, and think about how to be better at what they do.
