This session is an update of a 2012 session that outlined data load options for loading CSV and XLSX data into an Oracle database via an APEX application. A lot has changed in six years: loading requirements have changed (more XLSX, CLOBs and LOBs), environments have changed (more hybrid and cloud-based), and there are enhanced and new data load options to choose from.
This presentation will outline the steps to move files to a typical cloud environment for load. We will mention, but not detail, options for loading via JavaScript or node.js functions, and where such options may be appropriate. This presentation will focus on in-application data load options for routine, repeated, or one-of programmatic data loads. Attendees will learn about enhancements to common data load methods and interfaces they may not be aware of (PL/SQL-based XLSX loading interfaces).
Let’s revisit the ways to programmatically load data into an on-premise or cloud Oracle database. This presentation reviews a collection of data load options, including the APEX Data Load wizard, external tables, ORDS bulk data load, open source interfaces, plugins and APEX APIs helpful for custom coding. Demonstrations and examples are geared toward APEX applications, yet most of the techniques described can be used in any PL/SQL application. Attendees will gain sufficient knowledge to make an intelligent choice for their application data loading needs.
